Straight Razors for Your Barbershop
When it comes to straight razors, the quality of the blades, an ergonomic handle, and easy cleaning are essential. A good razor can be easily taken apart and reassembled quickly and securely.
For the different uses of barber razors, there are blades designed for shaving, thinning, texturizing, or shortening. It is important that razors or thinning razors have an ergonomic handle. This ensures the razor fits comfortably in the hand and reduces the risk of injury.
Straight razors also include a plate that holds the blades. Every thinning or straight razor requires matching replacement blades that can be changed quickly and hygienically. The plate is single- or double-sided with fine teeth to protect the edges. Thanks to this special design, a thinning effect is automatically achieved.
Straight Razors from Solingen: Best Quality for Our Customers
The razors from premium brands Jaguar Solingen and Tondeo are manufactured in the world-famous blade city of Solingen, Germany.
Straight Razor Test: Which Are the Best Razors?
Would you like to switch from a traditional razor to a straight razor but aren’t sure what to look for? In addition to razors with replaceable blades, there are also models that can be resharpened. We tested straight razors for beginners and professionals and compiled the best ones:
Pro Tip: Tondeo Barber’s Toolbar Kingsguard
The winner in our straight razor test is the Tondeo Barber’s Toolbar Kingsguard. This razor is designed to meet the demands of barbers. The free tip of the blade allows for precise contour work. Its high-gloss polished blade holder and solid metal handle make this tool a true eye-catcher.
Best Value for Money: Jaguar R1 M
The Jaguar R1 M is one of the most popular models thanks to its affordable price. Despite its low cost, this razor doesn’t compromise on quality — its compact design makes it ideal for daily shaving. It is also available in a variety of attractive colors.
Straight Razor Blades
The blades for professional straight razors are made of hardened, stainless steel and can easily be inserted into the blade holders. Just like the razors themselves, the blades from Tondeo and Jaguar are manufactured in Solingen, Germany, under strict quality standards.
Straight Razor Set
If you use your razor regularly, it’s best to buy a complete razor set that includes replacement blades.
Straight Razor Guide: How to Master the Perfect Wet Shave
Many believe shaving with a straight razor is difficult, and therefore never try it. However, with the right technique, it’s actually very simple. Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Use shaving foam or cream and let it sit for at least two minutes.
- As a beginner, hold the blade with at least two fingers on top.
- Keep the razor at a 20-degree angle to the skin.
- Shave in short strokes following the direction of hair growth.
- Start with the cheeks.
- Let the razor glide without pressure.
- Use your free hand to gently stretch the skin for a closer shave.
- Tilt your head back slightly when shaving sensitive areas like the neck or chin.
- Rinse the razor under warm water to remove hair residue.
- After shaving, rinse your face with warm water, dry it, then rinse again with cold water to close the pores, and finish with an aftershave.
Changing Razor Blades
In professional barber shops or salons, the blade should be changed after each client — eliminating the need to ever sharpen the razor. Here’s how to change the blade using the Tondeo Barber’s Toolbar Kingsguard as an example:
- Slide the blade holder forward and carefully remove the old blade.
- New blades usually come in pairs, wrapped in paper.
- While still in the paper, snap the blades in half to separate them.
- Carefully take one half and insert it into the blade holder.
- Slide the holder back into place until it locks securely.
- Store the second half safely for future use.
History of the Straight Razor
As early as 3000 BC, shaving became fashionable among the upper classes. At that time, razors were made from copper or bronze. Even in ancient Rome, shaving was already a common practice.
With the invention of silver steel, the 19th century marked the golden age of the straight razor. The first hollow grinds were developed, and the razors already resembled the designs we know today.
After the invention of safety razors and electric shavers, the popularity of the straight razor declined. However, in recent years, it has experienced a revival, thanks to the rise of barbershops. A well-groomed beard is once again a sign of style — and it goes hand in hand with the return of traditional barber craftsmanship.
