A perm does not damage the hair anymore like it used to be, but hair still becomes more porous, dryer and delicate. It’s important not only for voluptuous curls but generally to keep hair healthy, to use only the correct care and styling products. How do you correctly take care of a permanent wave? A perm is a chemical treatment, which weakens the hair structure and also dries out the hair. This makes it crucial to use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. An intensely nourishing hair mask should also be used once a week, as it provides a higher amount of active ingredients.

Hair care of a permanent wave

Hair care products with a UV filter are especially important for a perm during summer. Washing the hair too frequently should be avoided with a permanent wave, but it is also not really necessary as the hair does not get greasy as quickly. When detangling the hair, it is preferable to use a wide tooth comb or a skeleton brush, instead of a normal brush as they are gentler to the hair. Excessive heat from blow drying damages chemically treated hair even easier. In order to protect the permed hair better, there are special spray lotions, oils and also mousse that are applied prior to heat application and that protect the hair. Permed hair should not be treated with permanent hair, as this further damages the hair and makes it more fragile. A semi-permanent colour is better in this case, as it coats the hair in a protective layer and adds additional nourishing oils to the hair.
