History
Aveda sees its philosophy grounded in the ancient art of Ayurveda which embraces the believe of the unity of all entities. For more than 500 years the Ayurvedic tradition has proven that a concruent balance of mind, body and spirit leads to a achieving beauty and health. This is the reason Aveda relies on a concept of wholeness.
Responsible manufacturing and packaging
Aveda uses pure essences of flowers and plants, socalled green ingredients (more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, water, or some other natural source.) Responsibly sourcing key ingredients from all over the globe is as essential as the usuage of reusable packagings (100% reusable PET). Aveda thus relies on packaging with plastic derived from plants. Furthermore, Aveda is also urging their partners to do so as well. On top of this, Aveda actively supports enironmental protection and health care missions all over the world.
Ingredients
Aveda’s research team is constantly striving to find new plant and flower essences as well as better manufacturing processes to increase the percentage of the organic ingredients even more. More than 50 % of the packaging is derived from plants and the brand is very keen on keeping up the high quality of the ingredients as well as their origin and refrains from harmful manufacturing procedures. These strict standards put Aveda in a leading position in the production of cosmetics: 89% oft he products and 90% of the essential oils are organic (measured in tonnes).
In this way Aveda makes use of green ingredients for the whole assortment of goods . Aveda only uses ingredients whose molecules are at least 50% plant derived, out of non-petroleum minerals as well as water and other natural resources. Contained essential oils are obtained in an environmentally responsible manner by steam distillation. Aveda procures its resources from all over the world. The ingredients are collected from all over the world: Ayurvedic roots stem from India, nuts from the Babassu palm and Buriti oil from Brazil, sandalwood from Western Australia, roses and lavender from Bulgaria. Cistus from Spain can be found alongside other herbal ingredients from Nepal or the Amazon. As a matter of fact, every essence is extracted from sustainable, fair cultivation.
